Subject Plans — All 7 NY-Required Subjects

NY requires 7 subject areas. Fill in each row with what you’ll cover this year. You can change this later — this is your plan, not a contract.
Subject What You’ll Cover (Topics/Units) Curriculum or Resources
Mathematics
Science
English Language Arts
History & Geography
Health & Safety
Physical Education
The Arts
⚠️ Don’t skip Health & Safety. New York specifically requires drug resistance education (DARE/opioid education). If you omit this section, your district will ask you to revise — even if your child is young.

4

Assessment Method

NY requires quarterly progress reports. Choose your assessment method. The portfolio method is most common for homeschoolers.

5

The 3-Parent Conference Requirement

⚠️ NY requires an annual instructional review meeting. At least one parent/guardian must meet with your school district’s superintendent or homeschool coordinator to review your child’s progress. This is non-negotiable if requested.

6

Submission Checklist

Before you hit submit, run through this list:

Submission address: Find your district’s homeschool coordinator or superintendent contact at your county’s school district website. Most districts accept IHIP submission via email to the superintendent’s office.

+

Quarterly Progress Report Template

Complete one of these at the end of each quarter (or semester, per your district’s requirement) and keep with your homeschool records.

Quarter 1 — Subject Progress Notes

Quarter 2 — Subject Progress Notes
