⚠️ Don’t skip Health & Safety. New York specifically requires drug resistance education (DARE/opioid education). If you omit this section, your district will ask you to revise — even if your child is young.

Assessment Method

NY requires quarterly progress reports. Choose your assessment method. The portfolio method is most common for homeschoolers.

Portfolio Method — I will maintain organized samples of my child’s work in each subject and present them to the superintendent quarterly (most common and flexible).

Standardized Testing — I will have my child take a standardized achievement test at the end of the year (required by some districts, especially grades 4, 6, 8).

Narrative Evaluation — I will provide a written narrative summary of progress in each subject quarterly.

Work Sample Collection — I will collect work samples throughout the quarter as evidence of learning.

The Annual Conference Requirement

⚠️ NY may require an annual instructional review meeting. If your district requests it, at least one parent/guardian must meet with the superintendent or homeschool coordinator to review your child’s progress.

Submission Checklist

Before you hit submit, run through this list:

All 7 NY subjects are listed with specific content descriptions

Curriculum resources are listed with a 1-sentence rationale each

Health & Safety includes opioid/drug resistance education

Educational philosophy is written in my own voice (not copied)

Assessment method is checked and described

Child’s grade level matches current year

I have a copy saved for my records

I will submit by email with read receipt OR certified mail
